  2. 2 only
  3. Both 1 and 2

Answer

1 only

1. Correct. In the relevant recent years before the exam, India’s edible oil imports were very high and exceeded domestic edible oil production. India has been heavily import-dependent, especially for palm, soybean and sunflower oils.

2. Incorrect. The Government did not remove customs duty on all imported edible oils. It reduced duties on some edible oils at different times, but a blanket zero-duty exemption for all imported edible oils was not in force.

Therefore, only statement 1 is correct.
