Prelims 2021 · Geography · Question 53
With reference to the Indus river system, of the following four rivers, three of them pour into one of them which joins the Indus direct. Among the following, which one is such river that joins the Indus direct?
Answer
Chenab
- (a) Chenab: Correct. Jhelum, Ravi and Sutlej ultimately flow into the Chenab, and the Chenab then joins the Indus directly in Pakistan.
- (b) Jhelum: Incorrect. Jhelum is a tributary of the Chenab; it does not receive the other three and does not join the Indus directly.
- (c) Ravi: Incorrect. Ravi also joins the Chenab downstream; it is not the river into which the other three pour.
- (d) Sutlej: Incorrect. Sutlej joins the Chenab/Panjnad system before the waters enter the Indus; it is not the direct recipient of the other three.
Therefore, the river is Chenab.
